Planning a garden can feel intimidating, but there are tools that can help make it easier and faster. We are currently building a 20'X20' Growers Solution Quonset greenhouse. Instead of growing in the ground, we are growing in raised beds. We have been very impressed with our Vego Garden raised beds and will use eight raised beds to maximize space. In this article, I'll show you the tool I used to plan out the area quickly and easily.
Paper and Pencil
Paper and pencil are always an option, but if you're like me, you'll need a big eraser as you move things around and play with the sizes of the raised beds. Another downside to paper and pencil is that it produces a flat view that makes it hard to visualize what the beds will look like in the area.
Build Your Own Garden Planner
My new favorite way to plan a raised bed garden is using the Vego Garden build-your-own planner. The planner is a 3-D planner that allows you to drag and drop any of their beds into the garden space you select. There are some preset choices, or you can do as I did and create a custom-size area.
Using the Garden Planner
- Open the Vego 3D Garden Planner web app on your computer or mobile device.
- Select your yard dimensions or use the custom button to create a tailored canvas for your garden design.
- Drag and drop your choice of Vego Garden raised garden beds onto the canvas.
- Customize the size, shape, and color of your garden beds to match your personal style and garden needs.
- Save, download, or share your design, and use the built-in checkout button to add products to your cart for a seamless Vego Garden purchase.
Our Greenhouse Layout
Our greenhouse is 20'X20'. To make planting, watering, weeding, and other maintenance tasks easier, I wanted a two-foot walkway down the middle and about one foot along the sides. That gave me about 16'X16' to fill with beds. Since I wanted beds on both sides of the walkway, the nine-in-one beds are perfect because one option is 8' long.
