After a lot of planning on where we would grow things, we decided where we wanted the well water to go. There is an old kennel that we are converting to a potting shed that would need water. Our Vego-raised garden area would need water. Our outdoor shower would need water. Our compost would need water. And finally, our greenhouse area would need water.
Trenching From The Well
We rented a trencher from Home Depot to bury PEX tubing and expand the well system to all the areas where we wanted water. It took a full two days of trenching, and we needed almost 600' of PEX tubing to get the lines where we wanted. It was hard work, but it would be worth it when finished. We had to order the PEX, and once it arrived, we stretched it out and buried it in our trenches from the well to each location.
Plumbing Parts
Next, we used various connectors to reduce the well feed from 1" to ¾" inside the junction box. I purchased a buriable sprinkler box and plumbed each of the three feeds out on a ball valve so we could shut down individual lines while leaving others open. We mounted 4"x 4" poles at each location and a spigot for attaching hoses. Coming out of the ground, we reduced the ¾" feed to ½" to keep pressure from the long runs. Because PEX is susceptible to breaking down from UV, we wrapped the exposed ½" line out of the ground with the black split loom. This would prevent UV damage to the exposed PEX.
Replacing The Breaker Box For The Well Pump
Well Water Part I mentioned that the breaker box was in bad shape. We upgraded our entire electrical feed to the property during the weeks between these posts. The Co-Op installed a new pole with a new meter base running a 200 amp circuit for the house. They removed the yard's old electrical wire, meter base, and poles. They also installed a second new meter base running 100 amps on another area of the property for the water well and greenhouse. While we had the trencher, we installed a new electrical feed to the well from the new meter base, which has a built-in breaker panel. This resolved the breaker box issue and completed the overhaul of the well systems.
Complete Usable Water Well System
After all the work, we finally had a complete, usable water well system. It works perfectly, and now we have clean, pure well water for all of our garden needs across most of the property.
