A Trip to the Garden Guru Garden Center

    June 5, 2022 by Margaret

Do you have a favorite garden store? If you're like me, you probably have several. I enjoy gardening from seeds, but I also like to buy plants that are either hard to find seeds for or don't grow well from seeds. I also like to pick up, look at and smell plants before deciding if I want to grow a specific variety of plants or herbs. For all of those reasons and more, it's essential to have garden nurseries to visit.

    Finding New Garden Centers

Have you ever been out driving around and passed by a garden center and thought I need to stop in there one day? Well, there are several places like that around us. We pass by them, they look cool, but I never stop. But that's about to change!

    The Garden Guru

The gardening guru is a garden center that I've driven past for years, but it's never been at a convenient time to stop. So then yesterday, I proposed spending the day going to a few different garden centers to see if we could find some inspiration for a new area we are setting up. We started with a garden center we had been to about ten years ago. It's a cute spot with many beautiful trees, shrubs, and flowers. However, they didn't have any vegetables and only 3-4 different herbs.

Our next stop was The Garden Guru. You quickly see rows of greenhouses and potted plants as you drive through the gate. However, this is not your typical, well-manicured nursery. The owner grows most of the herbs and vegetables himself from seeds. At first, his growing setup looked like your standard 4" pots. Then, as we walked around and got deeper into the greenhouses, we noticed large trays where he was starting seedlings. Then, as they grow, he pots them up into the 4" pots.

    Well Water

Scott and the owner started talking as I wandered around looking at plants. If you've read many of our articles, you know we prefer not to use city water for watering our plants. Scott mentioned to the owner how healthy and green everything looked, and the owner replied, "It's because I feed the plants every two weeks and water with well water, not city tap water!

    Garden Yard Art

Like most garden centers, the Garden Guru Garden Center has a wide assortment of yard art, decorative pots, and hanging signs. However, I spotted a unique Harley Davidson sign that we had to get!
